The National Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (NAPLAN) will be held on 15, 16 and 17 May 2012 for all Year 9 and 10.10 students. It is a nationally developed assessment that occurs at the same time in all schools across Australia. School’s results in the NAPLAN can be viewed on the MYSCHOOL website @ www.myschool.edu.au

The NAPLAN (literacy) assesses reading, writing punctuation, spelling and grammar while the NAPLAN (numeracy) assesses number, algebra, function and pattern, measurement, chance and data, and space. NAPLAN reports show families the achievement of their son or daughter against national benchmark standards. This information is valuable to the school and your student because it enables us to ensure all students are being extended or supported appropriately.

We would encourage you to look at the sample question papers which are available from the NAPLAN website at www.naplan.edu.au with your son/daughter.

We are pleased to advise that the CIS delegation, who recently conducted a Preliminary Visit of the school, have approved GIHS for the next stage of the accreditation process – a community survey.

The survey will be used to ascertain how parents, caregivers, students and teachers feel the school is performing in a variety of areas. As parents and caregivers your opinions are extremely important to us and the survey will provide you an opportunity to offer suggestions for improvement in the school.

The responses from each family will be captured and we will use the information throughout 2012 to work on some of the improvements leading up to the CIS visit later in the year.

Our annual Sports Day will be held on Thursday 15 March 2012.  A 10 minute Home Group session will be held at 8.45 am at the start of the day.
